There`s a call every firefighter remembers — not the biggest one, not the one that made the news.
The one that made it real.
Maybe it was your first structure fire. Your first save. The first time your crew looked at you after and you knew, without anyone saying a word, that you belonged there.
That moment doesn`t come from a textbook. It doesn`t come from a written exam or a PAT score.
It comes from showing up. From doing the work before the work matters. From putting in the hours when nobody`s watching.
If you`re in the middle of the process right now — the applications, the testing, the waiting — know this:
The hall remembers who worked for it.
What moment made it real for you? Drop it in the comments 👇
Rest in peace, Agent Mohamed Lamine Benredouane.
Yesterday morning, Agent Benredouane of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal was killed in the line of duty in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood. He was 34 years old, with five years of service. A second officer was seriously injured and is in stable condition.
It was the first time in 24 years that a Montreal police officer was killed on duty.
He showed up to protect. That`s what first responders do, every single shift — without hesitation.
To his family, his crew, and the entire SPVM: the first responder community stands with you. 🖤💙

Two RCMP officers were shot last night in Melville, Saskatchewan while responding to a call. Both were hospitalized with serious injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
They answered the call. They always do.
From everyone at Fire Recruitment — we`re thinking of you and wishing you a full and speedy recovery. The entire first responder community stands with you. 💙

The application process will test your mind long before it tests your body.
Most recruits talk about the physical demands — the fitness standards, the tactical exercises, the stages. But nobody talks about the mental grind: the months between submitting your application and getting an offer, the self-doubt after a failed stage, the discipline to keep training when you don`t know if it`s working.
The candidates who make it aren`t always the fastest or the strongest on paper. They`re the ones who stayed consistent when things got quiet.
That`s the work nobody sees. And it`s where your career actually starts.
What part of the recruitment process challenged you mentally? Drop it in the comments — let`s normalize the real experience.

To the dads who leave for a 24-hour shift and come home to the biggest hug they`ve ever felt.
To the fathers who taught their kids what service looks like — not by talking about it, but by showing up.
To every firefighter dad out there: Happy Father`s Day. The hall is lucky to have you. So is your family.
🖤 From the Fire Recruitment team
We hear it all the time:
"I don`t think I`m ready yet."
Here`s the truth: the candidates who get hired aren`t the ones who waited until they felt ready. They`re the ones who started before they felt ready.
Volunteering before their schedule was clear.
Doing ride-alongs before they had the fitness dialled in.
Submitting applications while they were still improving.
The hiring process takes time. That time is yours.
Most people wait for a sign. The ones who make it use the waiting period as a runway.
If you`re on the fence, this is your sign.
What`s one thing you can do this week to move the process forward? 👇
Nobody tells you what your first year on the job actually feels like.
You train for the call. You don`t train for the weight of what comes after it.
Your first year as a firefighter is less about the big emergencies and more about the small moments that shape who you`ll become:
→ Learning how your crew takes their coffee
→ Being the probie who still gets turned around in the building
→ The first time a senior FF shows you something the textbook never covered
→ Coming home and not knowing how to explain your shift
It`s not just a new job. It`s a new identity.
If you`re in the application process right now, know this: the culture you`re working toward is worth it. And your first year will teach you more than any training program ever could.
Tag a firefighter who still remembers their first year 👇
