You Only Get a Few Attempts โ€” Often Just Three

In the provinces that publish their exam policies โ€” Ontario and New Brunswick โ€” the Firefighter I & II certification written exams are multiple choice, drawn from validated question banks, and passed at 70%; other IFSAC/Pro Board jurisdictions follow the same pattern. New Brunswick’s certification policy caps you at three attempts per exam before a full course retake, at roughly 1.5 minutes per question โ€” and Ontario’s largest fire academy (FESTI) enforces the same three-attempt limit. A failed attempt costs a rewrite fee, weeks of waiting โ€” and sometimes the job posting you were racing for. Walking in with two clean 100-question passes behind you removes the gamble.

See the Style for Yourself

Sample โ€” Fire Behaviour:

โ€œCrews notice thick, dark smoke pulsing in and out of small gaps around a closed door, black-stained window glass, and no visible flame. Which event should they prepare for if this compartment is opened without ventilation control?โ€

  1. Those signs โ€” pulsing smoke, stained glass, ventilation-limited burning โ€” point to a backdraft risk, not a flashover already in progress.
  2. The correct control is coordinated ventilation (often vertical) before the door is opened, not a faster entry.

Every question in the pack teaches its reasoning like this. Want more? The free readiness quiz has 15 of them.

For perspective: a single exam rewrite costs $50โ€“60 in fees and weeks of waiting. One clean pass pays for the pack โ€” and if you’re also facing a hiring aptitude test, the Aptitude Test Bundle covers that entirely separate exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which exams does this prepare me for?

The written (knowledge) portion of Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification to NFPA 1001 โ€” the exams administered by provincial authorities such as the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal, the New Brunswick FCPNB, Alberta Municipal Affairs, and other IFSAC/Pro Board-accredited entities. Content is aligned to the topic areas of IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting, 7th edition โ€” the reference text named in New Brunswick’s certification policy and used by fire programs across Canada โ€” and organized to mirror published exam blueprints. Skills evaluations (practicals) are separate and hands-on; this pack covers the written side. Still choosing a school? See our guide to pre-service firefighter programs in Canada.

Is Firefighter II the same as NFPA 1002?

No โ€” a common mix-up. Firefighter I and II are both levels of NFPA 1001 (chapters 4 and 5; chapters 6 and 7 since the 2024 consolidation into NFPA 1010). NFPA 1002 is the separate Driver/Operator standard for pump and aerial apparatus. You won’t find pump hydraulics on an FFII written exam, and you won’t find any here either.

Are these real exam questions?

No โ€” and be wary of anyone claiming otherwise. Real certification banks are confidential and copyrighted. Every question here is original, written to exercise the same knowledge areas the real exams assess, with difficulty levels and worked explanations.

Does it cover hazmat and first aid?

Yes. Hazmat awareness & operations is a hard prerequisite for Firefighter I certification, so the pack includes a 40-question hazmat drill (TDG placards, the ERG, control zones, PPE levels, decontamination) with Canadian framing โ€” CANUTEC, not just CHEMTREC. There’s also a 15-question first-aid drill covering the universally taught core; exact first-aid requirements vary by province.

How do I access the tests after buying?

Instantly. Your purchase creates an account (or uses your existing one); your tests live at โ€œMy FF1 & FF2 Practice Testsโ€, linked from your order confirmation. Works on phone, tablet and computer.

How long do I keep access?

12 months from purchase, unlimited retakes, including any new questions we add during your access period.

What’s the refund policy?

A 14-day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase: email us and we’ll refund you in full โ€” refunds are typically processed within a few business days.
