Description

Christina Lake Fire Rescue provides fire protection and emergency services within Electoral Area C/Christina Lake as part of the Christina Lake Fire Protection Service. It is a composite fire department consisting of a Career Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and a dedicated team of paid on call Captains, Lieutenants and Firefighters. The Department responds to a variety of emergency situations including fire suppression as the main mandate, medical first responder emergencies, motor vehicle incidents and auto extrication, and rope; water; and ice rescue. The allure of Christina Lake is in its incredible attractions and best-kept wilderness secrets with several nearby ski areas, seasonal activities, world-class trails, and more events than you have time for. Christina Lake is a premier destination for authentic hospitality and year-round exploration.

Do you want to serve as a full-time firefighter, gain firefighting experience, continue your fire service education, live in the fire station, and be part of a progressive team? If so, this might be the position you’re looking for!

Christina Lake Fire Rescue is seeking candidates for our Work Experience Program (WEP 26). We are accepting applications from September 21, 2026 until the end of the business day October 22, 2026.  The two successful WEP firefighters will begin the program on November 18, 2026 with a one-month on-the-job bootcamp to refine firefighting skills and learn departmental policies and practices.

Program Overview

  • WEP firefighters will have the opportunity to refine their previously acquired NFPA 1001 skills through specialized training drills, regular training sessions, emergency response calls and examinations.
  • WEP firefighters will acquire job experience by participating in specialized programs such as pre-incident planning, public education, shift work, regular fire hall duties and other volunteer training programs.
  • WEP firefighters will train and become EMA certified as Medical First Responders Schedule 2. They will also receive training (both in-house and accredited) in several other desirable areas, including technical rescue disciplines.
  • WEP firefighters are regular paid-on-call members of the Christina Lake Fire Rescue and will be required to uphold the same standards and commitments, receiving the same hourly wage as the regular paid-on-call members.
  • Christina Lake Fire Rescue will assist the WEP firefighters’ career search for Fire Department job postings and provide education such as interview and resume writing skills through departmental and third-party coaching.
  • Vacation time or personal leave can be made available upon request.
  • Trainees will be required to make a 12-month commitment to the program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Through the program, your responsibilities as a WEP firefighter will include, but not be limited to:

  • Fire Suppression
  • Fire Prevention
  • Fire Inspections
  • Motor Vehicle Incidents
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Technical Rescue

  • Public Assists

  • participate in specialized training sessions to maintain and enhance their certification and skill levels;
  • complete regular hall and equipment maintenance as an integral part of the program;
  • respond to emergency calls as paid-on-call members of Christina Lake Fire Rescue;
  • perform daily training on-shift, and train with the POC contingent on regular Wednesday night practices.

WEP firefighters spend many hours living and working together while also performing routine duties at the fire hall. For this reason, the ability to follow direction, work as a team, and get along well with others are essential skills for all WEP firefighters. You must also be able to assess situations, make decisions, and act on your own initiatives.
