Description

The City of Terrace is seeking a qualified Firefighter to join its team under the general direction of the Fire Chief or designate. As a member of IAFF Local 2685, the Firefighter will provide skilled, professional emergency response and related services. The position requires adherence to departmental policies and operational guidelines while working collaboratively with other personnel and agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fire Suppression: Perform firefighting operations as part of an integrated fire-rescue team.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to rescue situations, hazardous material incidents, and auto extrications.
  • Medical Response: Provide emergency medical care at the scene of incidents.
  • Public Education: Assist with public fire education and prevention programs.
  • Inspections: Conduct fire inspection activities as required.
  • Daily Operations: Participate in the daily operation, readiness, and maintenance of fire department apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned by shift or chief officer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Legal Status: Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Education: High School graduation or equivalent (certificate required).
  • Certification: Completion of NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2 (IFSAC OR PRO-BOARD accredited) standard.
  • Licensing: Valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board EMR or PCP License or capable of attaining.
  • Water Competency: Ability to work comfortably around and in water.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of accumulated work experience following completion of high school.
  • Driver's License: Valid B.C. Driver's License, Class 5 with air brakes endorsement.
  • Lifestyle: Demonstrated commitment to a fit and healthy lifestyle.
  • Personal Development: Commitment to personal development.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Firefighting Experience: Career or Volunteer firefighting experience.
  • Additional Certifications: Any Pro-board or IFSAC accredited courses.
  • Driver's License: Valid BC Class 3 licence.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment screening including a criminal record check, driver's abstract, medical clearance, and skills/fitness testing consistent with departmental standards.
