Why Is This Tank Not Filling?

The tank has room and the supply is available. Why is no water entering? In this diagram, the red vertical valve line means closed. The closed inlet interrupts the only flow path. Trace the pipe from the supply to the tank before deciding. Read the symbol key, then follow the connection. More firefighter aptitude practice is linked through our channel profile.

Your firefighter resume isn't a work history document.

It's a proof of character.

Hiring panels aren't just checking boxes — they're asking: does this person have the foundation to become a firefighter we'd trust on a call?

What that means for your resume:

→ Lead with relevant experience. Volunteer fire, EMS, military, trades, public safety. If it demonstrates judgment under pressure, it belongs near the top.

→ Drop the generic job duties. "Responsible for customer service" tells a captain nothing. "Managed conflict resolution under high-stress conditions" starts to tell a story.

→ Certifications need to be visible. Firefighter 1 & 2, EMR, NFPA, Fire Science — if you have them, they go in their own section, not buried in a job description.

→ Community involvement matters. Coaches, volunteers, mentors — panels look for people who show up outside of work.

→ One page is a myth. Two clean, relevant pages beat one cluttered one.

Your resume gets you the interview. Make sure it earns that spot.

2 to 7: How Much Concentrate?

Two parts concentrate to seven parts water. How much concentrate goes with twenty-eight litres of water? Twenty-eight divided by seven is four. Multiply both sides of the ratio by four. Two times four gives eight litres of concentrate. The given quantity described water, not the total mixture. Label first, then scale.

Save this for your next CPS practice session. More examples: link in bio → Aptitude Test Prep Bank.

Myth: You need to be an elite athlete to pass the physical testing.

Reality: You need to be specifically trained for it.

The OFAI/FACT and CPAT aren't designed to test your max fitness — they're designed to test functional work capacity. Stair climb, hose drag, equipment carry, rescue drag. All timed. All in gear.

Candidates who train for general fitness often underperform. Candidates who train the actual test movements — in the actual gear — do better.

What that looks like in practice:
→ Weighted stair climbs, not just cardio
→ Farmer carries and sled drags, not just leg press
→ Practice runs in full bunker gear before test day
→ Knowing the sequence cold so you're not thinking — just moving

You don't need to be the fittest person in the room. You need to pass the standard.

Train for the test.
