The La Ronge Regional Fire Department is looking for a motivated, conscientious and professional individual to take part in our work experience program for 2022. As a first responder, you will respond to structural and wildland fires, motor vehicles accidents, water rescues and other calls in the Lac La Ronge Region. You will be trained on industry best practices and gain valuable experience in the field of firefighting.
The La Ronge Regional Fire Department is a regional fire department responding to 11 different communities and over 1200 km of roadways. The department consists of up to 30 paid on call firefighters and 2 full time employees; one Fire Chief and one Deputy Chief.
The work experience program firefighter will be responsible for daily maintenance at the fire hall, assisting the Chiefs in training and inspections and will conduct training daily. They will be responsible for responding to emergencies during working hours and may be on-call during off hours.
Work Experience Program (WEP) Firefighters will be Monday to Friday, 35 hours a week and be an hourly wage.
Employment dates will be from June 6th-August 26th, 2022
Duties and Responsibilities
Daily duties of the WEP firefighter consist of the following:
-Fire Hall, Apparatus and Equipment maintenance
-Respond to the following emergencies: Structural and Wildland Firefighting, Aircraft Response, Hazmat, Auto
Extrication, and Ice/Water rescues.
-Assist staff with Fire and Life Safety Inspections
-Participate in training with Fire Department members
-Participate as required at community events
-Participate in daily Firefighter training as required
Minimum Qualifications
-Legally entitled to work in Canada
-Fluency in English (written and verbal)
-18 years of age or older
-Medical suitability for the position of Firefighter as per NFPA 1582 standards
-NFPA 1001 - Level 1 and 2 from an accredited Institution (IFSAC or Pro Board)
-NFPA 472 - Hazardous Materials - Operations Level
-Successfully completed criminal record check
-Grade 12 Education, GED completion or Equivalent
-Current Driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement
-Current First Aid/CPR (any level)
-Ability to relocate to region if hired for position
Preferred Qualifications
-Class 3 driver’s license or equivalent
-Previous Firefighting, Military, EMS, First Responder or Search and Rescue Experience
-NFPA 1002 Driver Operator
-Additional training related to the duties of Firefighting
