The Town of High Level requires multiple responsible & motivated individuals for the position of  Firefighter Work Experience Program, commencing April 15, 2026.

Reporting to the Shift Officer, the Work Experience Firefighter as part of the Emergency Services Department, is generally responsible for the response to High Level Fire Department emergency calls, Fire Department support and equipment readiness.

The wage for this position is $20.16 - $27.59 based on Qualifications and experience. The town offers shared housing provided at cost recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • As part of a crew, the Work Experience Firefighter responds to a variety of emergency calls including but not limited to:
    • Structure fires
    • Vehicle Fires
    • Vegetation Fires
    • Medical emergencies
    • Motor Vehicle Collisions
  • Attends and participates in weekly Training Sessions, formal courses and weekend training sessions of the High Level Fire Department.
  • Conducts equipment and Station Maintenance in accordance with the practices and procedures.
  • Participates in ensuring the operational readiness of the High Level Fire Department.
  • As part of the Health and Safety Program, conduct periodic inspections during training sessions of the fire hall for, but not limited to, such items as safe work practices, and safety hazards.
  • Attends and participates in Fire Department meetings as required.
  • Assists senior fire staff in Public Education activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Standard First Aid/Level C CPR
  • NFPA 1001 Level I and II
  • ICS 100
  • Must pass the High Level Fire Department Physical Assessment Test
  • Valid Class 5 or 3 Alberta Driver’s license with Air Brakes Endorsement or equivalent
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Drivers abstract acceptable to the Town

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wildland Firefighting training (NFPA 1051 or Type 1 Wildfire Crew Member).
  • NFPA 472/1072 Operations
  • NFPA 1002 Pump Operator
  • Emergency Medical Training (FMR/EMR or higher)
  • ICS 200
  • Paid On Call or Volunteer experience would be an asset

Additional Information
