Description

The Town of Georgina is seeking Volunteer Firefighters to join their dedicated Fire and Rescue Services team. This role is essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community by responding to emergencies and supporting fire prevention initiatives.

As a Volunteer Firefighter, you will have the opportunity to serve your community, develop valuable skills, and work within an inclusive and barrier-free environment committed to diversity and equal opportunity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response: Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergency calls as required.
  • Fire Suppression: Participate in extinguishing fires, performing rescues, and salvaging property at emergency scenes.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and maintain firefighting equipment, vehicles, and gear to ensure operational readiness.
  • Training: Attend and participate in regular training sessions and drills to maintain and enhance firefighting skills and knowledge.
  • Fire Prevention: Assist with public education, fire prevention presentations, and community outreach programs.
  • Teamwork: Work effectively within a team environment under stressful and dynamic conditions.
  • Administrative Duties: Complete reports and documentation as required following incidents and training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Residency: Must reside within the Town of Georgina or within a specified response area.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver’s License: Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license or higher and satisfactory driving record.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to meet the physical demands of firefighting, including passing required fitness and medical assessments.
  • Availability: Willingness to respond to emergencies and attend training sessions, often during evenings and weekends.
  • Communication: Proficient in verbal and written English communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Experience: Prior experience in emergency services, firefighting, or related fields.
  • Certification: First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Community Involvement: Demonstrated involvement in community service or volunteer organizations.
  • Team Skills: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
