FULL TIME PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER (1 position)
TEMPORARY FULL-TIME PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER (2 positions)
The City of Brockville is conducting a recruitment process to hire probationary firefighters. This recruitment process will also be used to create an eligibility list for possible future probationary firefighter vacancies within the City of Brockville fire department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of a Captain, you will be a team player responsible for all fire suppression activities that are necessary to save life and property, rescue/extrication operations and provide medical assistance in an emergency environment. You will conduct routine maintenance of firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment. You focus on community service while performing fire safety, education and inspections of properties and equipment for fire hazards. You will follow instructions and orders from superior officers in action, maintenance and training situations. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older by application deadline and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Hold their Ontario Secondary School Diploma OSSD (Grade 12) or academic equivalent diploma.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with Level C CPR (Must be kept valid while active in the recruitment process).
- Hold and produce a valid Ontario “G” class driver’s licence, (or equivalent). Provide a clean drivers' abstract (dated within 30 days) to the Corporation at the time of a conditional job offer.
- Possess a valid Ontario “DZ” class driver’s license or obtain same, at their own expense, within the first year of employment.
- Meet the medical standards (NFPA 1582: Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments) at the time of a medical examination.
- As a condition of employment a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Employer is required, at the candidate's expense, at the time of a conditional job offer.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of the Pre Service Fire Fighter program and/or fire fighter experience (NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I, II certifications) would be considered an asset.
