Description

Rocky View County is seeking Paid Per Call Firefighters to join its Fire Services team. This position reports to a Fire Captain or Station Chief and plays a key role in extinguishing fires, performing rescues, providing medical aid, and supporting other fire and life safety duties. The team is committed to work/life balance, professional growth, and serving the vibrant community of Rocky View County.

Firefighters in this role respond to emergencies, assist with fire prevention and public education, and help maintain the readiness of the fire station, vehicles, and equipment. This position is suited to those who thrive on challenge, teamwork, and community service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response: Respond to fires, vehicle accidents, and various emergency calls to ensure public safety and reduce injuries.
  • Fire Suppression: Work with team members to deploy hoses, control water streams, climb ladders, and utilize firefighting tools and gear in emergency situations.
  • Equipment Operation: Drive and operate fire trucks and related firefighting equipment as assigned.
  • Physical Fitness: Maintain a high level of physical fitness, including lifting, climbing, and performing cardiovascular activities as required by the role.
  • Maintenance: Ensure vehicles, tools, and medical equipment are well-maintained and ready for immediate deployment.
  • Fire Prevention: Conduct safety checks, inspections, and participate in community visits to promote fire prevention.
  • Public Education: Visit schools and attend local events to provide fire and life safety education to the community.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in community programs and events to foster positive relationships and promote safety.
  • Training: Attend weekly evening training sessions and weekend training courses, especially during the initial six months.
  • Team Building: Contribute to a positive team atmosphere at the Fire Station.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Age: 18 years of age or older.
  • Driver's License: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (non-GDL).
  • Driving Record: Minimal infractions on a 5-year commercial driver’s abstract.
  • Residency: Must reside and/or work within 15 minutes’ drive (at posted speed limits) of the fire station.
  • Medical: Satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
  • Criminal Record: Clean Criminal Record.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift and carry heavy gear, such as carrying 20–40 lbs of equipment up stairs while wearing approximately 50 lbs of protective gear, or dragging a person weighing over 200 lbs during a rescue.
  • Physical Fitness: Good vision, hearing, movement, and coordination to perform firefighting tasks.
  • Stress Management: Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.

Additional Information

Salary: Hourly pay, minimum rate: $23.20 CAD per hour
