Description

The City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services is seeking applicants for the position of Paid-Per-Call Firefighter. This entry-level role does not require previous firefighting experience, as comprehensive recruit training will be provided.

As a Paid-Per-Call Firefighter, you will play a vital role in supporting emergency response efforts within the community, working as part of a dedicated composite fire department committed to public safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency calls as dispatched by the department.
  • Drive and operate fire department vehicles, as well as personal vehicles, with discretion and safety.
  • Follow orders and instructions through the chain of command from senior department officers.
  • Apply proper firefighting techniques to control and/or extinguish fires and manage other emergency situations.
  • Attend all required firefighting and recruit training sessions.
  • After successful completion of recruit training, participate in regular firefighter training as required by the department.
  • Understand and adhere to department policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Licensing:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid unrestricted Ontario Glass “G” Driver’s License (or equivalent).
  • Willingness to obtain a DZ Driver’s License.

Training and Certifications:

  • Willingness to obtain NFPA 1001 certification within 1 year (training provided in-house).

Personal and Professional Skills:

  • Ability to interact with the public in a polite, sympathetic, and efficient manner, regardless of stress level.
  • Ability to perform duties in emergency situations under high levels of stress.

Screening Requirements (upon selection):

  • Completion of a 3-year Driver’s License Abstract deemed satisfactory to the Employer.
  • Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check deemed satisfactory to the Employer.
  • Completion of a Medical Health Evaluation.

Additional Information

Compensation: $26.87 per hour (Probationary rate)

Hours Commitment: 2-5 hours per week (average)
