Description
Emergency Services Firefighter is committed to providing the highest level of emergency services to protect the life, environment, and property of Owner’s sites. In addition to attending emergency calls, the Firefighter is actively involved in public education, life safety inspections, training, and fire prevention in order to raise awareness about emergency preparedness.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reports to and receives direction from the Shift Lead Emergency Services.
- Keeping up to date with all standard operating procedures and guidelines;
- Collaborating with site emergency services personnel, dispatchers, health center staff, health & safety, security and site leadership to ensure rapid deployment of emergency services;
- Responds to Emergencies including Fire, Medical, Technical rescue, Vehicle Extrication, and HAZMAT;
- Administering emergency care to patients in accordance with medical protocols such as oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), spinal immobilization, bandaging and splinting;
- Establishing and maintaining intravenous treatment (IV), apply adjunctive equipment for ventilation and circulation complications, administer medications and provide other advanced emergency treatment to patients;
- Assessing extent of injuries or medical illnesses of trauma victims, patients with respiratory disease and stress, overdose and poisoning victims, industrial accident victims and other ill or injured individuals to determine emergency medical treatment;
- Transporting patients by ground to on-site health center or provincial health care facilities for further medical care and coordinate patient transport from the worksite via air ambulance;
- Assisting in the inventory and maintenance of the emergency services vehicles, equipment, tools, consumables and supplies;
- Working in collaboration to identify and mitigate hazards on various types of emergency scenes;
- Working in collaboration with other emergency services personnel to execute technical rescues including vehicle or machinery extrication, high angle, confined / restricted space, trench and any other immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) situation;
- Participating as part of the Emergency Services team in fire suppression activities;
- Inspect and maintain Emergency Response equipment to ensure a state of readiness and availability to respond to emergencies.
- Support fire code inspections of facilities as required.
- Complete inspection of fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 at Owner’s assets.
- Conduct training such as SCBA, and Fire Extinguisher as directed by the ES Lead.
- Maintain skills/competency as per established ES training program
- If required, conducting Alcohol & Drug (A&D) testing
- Complete appropriate documentation and records pertinent to the emergency services department;
- Entering data in computer systems and maintain logs, records, and reports as required;
- Maintaining complete and accurate employee health records respecting security, privacy and confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active ACP in good standing with Alberta College of Paramedics.
- Clear criminal record and clean drug & alcohol test.
- Essential certifications such as H2S Alive, WHMIS, CSO, TDG, online fall protection & online confined space.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite of programs.
- 3-7 years of firefighting experience
- NFPA 1001 Level 2
- NFPA 1072 Awareness
- ICS 100
- Current Advanced Cardiac Lift Support
- Valid Class 3/4 Driver's License with Airbrakes endorsement.
- Compliance with Company Drug and Alcohol Policy, including pre-access testing.
Preferred Qualifications

- NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations Level
- Current Advanced Cardiac Lift Support
- Valid Class 3/4 Driver's License with Airbrakes endorsement.
- Compliance with Company Drug and Alcohol Policy, including pre-access testing.
