Description
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for Firefighter Paramedics to fill permanent full-time positions. Working in a team environment, the FireMedic is a progressively responsible position for a registered professional emergency responder functioning in multidisciplinary roles that include fire suppression, medical, rescue and hazardous material incidents as well as providing non-emergency services to the community.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possesses registered professional status at the Advanced Care Paramedic designation in the Province of Alberta.
- Must possess a valid Alberta Driver's License with less than 5 demerits and no license suspensions in the last 2 years. (Class 4 with Q endorsement)
- Must be able to perform work related duties while wearing a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
- Must be able to perform work from heights in various situations as required.
- Ability to effectively use all personal protective devices and clothing supplied by the Department.
- Demonstrate proficient use of a computer and numerous software programs.(Microsoft Office, others).
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Possess a valid Alberta Driver's License (Class 1 or 3)
- Certificates or Diplomas in areas of study applicable to emergency services work
- Demonstrate progression towards and or completion of certification in directly related areas of service delivery. (NFPA 1001 Level II.)
- Demonstrate a continuous progression towards completion of certifications in directly related areas of service delivery. (NFPA 1002, NFPA 1072 (HAZMAT Operations), NFPA 1006 (Technical Rescuer Operations)
- Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 1 year on duty experience in emergency services with an emphasis on emergency response intervention programs that include fire suppression, rescue, EMS, Volunteer experience and community involvement

Remuneration:
$44.09 to $50.11 per hour.
Hours of Work:
The normal schedule of work for full time employees averages to 42 hours per week with a rotating schedule of 10, 12 and 14 hour shifts. During the initial training period successful applicants will be on special assignment, working Monday – Friday for 2 weeks.

We are seeking registered Advanced Care Paramedics (ACP) and Second year Advanced Care Paramedic Students.
To be selected for the interview stage of the process, applicants must provide proof of successful completion of the physical examination within the past 6 months, as well as proof of successful completion of the aptitude test, see details below. The aptitude test results will be valid for a period of two years.
The Aptitude Testing will occur on the dates noted below, with two different sessions available per day: one at 0815 hrs and another at 1315 hrs. Each testing session lasts approximately 2.5 hours. The dates available for the Aptitude Testing are listed below and will take place at Emergency Services Headquarters - 4340 32 St.:
- January 15, 2025, 0815 or 1315 hrs
- January 22, 2025, 0815 or 1315 hrs
- January 29, 2025, 0815 or 1315 hrs
- February 5, 2025, 0815 or 1315 hrs
These dates/times may be cancelled if there are no candidates that request it.
The Interview dates will be scheduled on the following dates:
- February 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2025.
*You will be required to pay for the RDP or U of A testing; and will be reimbursed upon being selected as a successful candidate.
