The City of White Rock is seeking temporary full-time firefighters to join White Rock Fire Rescue. As part of a close-knit team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community through fire prevention, public education, and emergency response. Fire response is a primary function, but firefighters are also expected to respond to a variety of emergencies, with a significant emphasis on providing medical aid. Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency calls including fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other urgent situations.
- Participate in fire prevention and public education programs to reduce risk and promote safety within the community.
- Safeguard life, property, and the environment through proactive and reactive emergency services.
- Operate firefighting and emergency response equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct inspections and routine maintenance of firefighting gear and vehicles.
- Collaborate with team members and other emergency services to provide effective incident response.
- Maintain physical fitness and readiness for duty at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required by the department.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisors or required by emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of approved Firefighter Training programs: NFPA 1001 and 472.
- A valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board EMR or PCP License.
- Certificate of fitness from Langara College or the University of Victoria completed within the last 365 days.
- High School Graduation or equivalent.
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License: Class 5 with Air Endorsement. Driver’s abstract must be within the last 30 days. Employment offers contingent upon receipt of a class 3 driver’s license by end of probationary period.
- Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant with legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- Residency requirement: Must reside within Area 1 living boundaries no later than 3 months after start date.
- Consent to Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check (for applicants under consideration).
- Vision and hearing must meet the criteria in NFPA 1582 Chapter 6: 20/30 corrected binocular vision and 20/100 uncorrected binocular vision or better; suitable colour and peripheral vision; normal unaided hearing.
- First Responder Suitability interview required.

- Monthly Wage: $7,515 (first 6 months - IAFF position, 2026 rates)
- Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package as per IAFF 2407 collective agreement.
