Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Fire suppression activities
  • Assisting at medical incidents
  • Fire inspections
  • Fire prevention education
  • Community initiatives
  • Working with communications professionals within the dispatch centre
  • Administrative reporting and other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident/Landed Immigrant)
  • Grade 12 completion or equivalent
  • Two years or more of accumulated work experience after high school completion
  • Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's License with air brake endorsement or equivalent for vehicles with more than two axles
  • A current BC EMA Licensing Board First Responder License or higher level of EMA License (EMR, PCP, ACP)
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal)
  • Physically and psychologically suitable for the position of firefighter (Meets NFPA 1582)
  • Willing to work 24 hour shifts, day shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays including extra shifts as required
  • Must live within specified geographic areas for emergency call-out
  • Successful completion of the Surrey Fire Service Basic Firefighting Knowledge Course or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Participation in a Recruit Orientation Workshop
  • Post Secondary Education (30 credits, one year in an apprenticeship, diploma, degree, or red seal certification)
  • Previous work experience in the hospitality industry (food service)
  • Previous work experience in police, fire, health care (one year minimum)
  • Previous work experience in Wildfire Service/Coast Guard/Lifeguarding
  • Previous work experience in military/search rescue
  • Previous work history with a non-profit organization
  • Experience in team-oriented sports or organizations
  • Sport coaching or instructional qualification
  • Computer literacy rating
  • Previous work experience including self-paced work, partner work, team work, or supervising others
  • Language fluency (English, ASL, or another language)

Additional Information

Salary Information: $90,176.52 - $136,540.08 annually (2026 rates).

Conditions of Employment: This position requires completion of a Police Information Check. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
