Description
The City of Stratford is seeking a permanent full-time Firefighter to join the Stratford Fire Department. The successful candidate will perform responsible service work in fire profession and prevention, working under the supervision of an Officer. Key responsibilities include responding to alarms, providing emergency medical response, and conducting inspections and training programs.

- Responds to alarms, drives and operates equipment, and assists in fire suppression, rescue, advancing lines, entry, ventilation, and salvage work.
- Provides emergency medical response and aid to ill and injured persons, and performs rescue/extrication operations.
- Conducts cleanup and overhaul work, and establishes temporary utility services.
- Maintains and repairs fire apparatus and equipment, and cleans fire stations and grounds.
- Makes fire code inspections of business establishments and prepares pre-fire plans.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, pumps out basements, inspects for gas leaks, secures vehicle accidents, and inspects chimneys.
- Participates in continuing training and instruction programs through individual study and attendance at drills and classes.
- Conducts station tours for the public, schools, and community demonstrations and programs.
- Backs up for dispatching personnel, monitors alarm boards, and receives/transmits radio and telephone messages.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Entry Level Firefighter Cooperative Personnel Services (CPS) Test Results.
- Valid Ontario Drivers Licence (DZ Endorsement).
- Valid Physical Fitness Assessment Test Results.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certifications.
- Valid OFAI certificates for stages 1 and 2.
Preferred Qualifications
- Capability of successfully completing OFAI stage 3 and swim test within 4 months of hire.
