Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services is establishing a Candidate Pool to fill future Firefighter positions. Successful applicants will join a dynamic team committed to public safety and community service. This role involves a range of emergency response and prevention activities, with opportunities for professional development.
After completing a rigorous recruit training program, Firefighters will work under the supervision of a Company Officer to deliver critical emergency and non-emergency services to the community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fire Ground Operations: Respond to and suppress fires as part of a team.
- Technical Rescue: Participate in specialized rescue operations as required.
- Hazardous Materials: Assist in hazardous materials response situations.
- Emergency Medical Care: Provide medical assistance at emergency scenes.
- Public Education/Relations: Engage in public education and community outreach initiatives.
- Communications: Maintain clear and effective communication during emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Pre-Incident Planning: Participate in planning and preparedness activities for potential emergencies.
- Fire Safety Inspections: Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
- Administrative Duties: Complete reports, records, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Fire Station Maintenance: Assist in the upkeep and cleanliness of fire stations.
- Fire Apparatus and Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain firefighting vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Age: At least 18 years old
- Legal Status: Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Community Involvement: Actively involved in and serve your community
Education and Certifications:
- Education: Grade 12 OSSD/OSSGD diploma or Ontario approved equivalent
- Firefighter Certification: NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II certifications or grandfathering equivalent
- First Aid/CPR: Valid First Aid and CPR Level C from a recognized provider
Licensing:
- Driver's License: Valid unrestricted Ontario DZ Driver’s License (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Driver's Abstract: Satisfactory Ontario Driver’s License Abstract, valid within 3 months of hire
Language and Communication:
- Language: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (verbal and written)
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrate: City’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
- Interpersonal Skills: Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
- Instruction Following: Ability and willingness to follow instructions promptly
Preferred Qualifications
- NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel
- NFPA 1035: Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator
- NFPA 1031: Standard for Fire Inspector
- Primary Care Paramedic Program: Completion of program or equivalent
- Post-secondary Education: Degree or diploma in a related field
- Trade Certification: Completion of a recognized trade certification
- Parmilitary Service: Service in a paramilitary organization
- Firefighter Experience: Considerable volunteer or career Firefighter work experience
