Description
Regina Airport Authority requires a Firefighter to be responsible for firefighting, rescue services, emergency medical responses, and fire prevention functions. The role is responsible for rapidly and safely performing duties in hazardous environments and emergency conditions. The primary objective is to save lives in the event of an aircraft accident or incident. A secondary responsibility is to preserve property and evidence. Other duties may include daily checks and light maintenance of equipment, facilities and fire trucks, as well as educating the public on fire prevention and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- While promoting safety and security awareness, perform all duties with an ownership attitude in compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
- Assist with ensuring appropriate incident command response procedures are carried out in the event of an emergency.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the company’s Mission, Vision, and Corporate Values.
- Respond to operational emergency situations during and after standard hours of work for the purposes of resolving immediate concerns to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
- Provide fire, hazardous materials and first responder services to aircraft and related airfield services and facilities.
- Provide medical response when requested.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and National Fire Protection Association standards.
- Respond to all emergencies within the emergency response plan.
- Participate in internal emergency response training.
- Operate emergency response equipment used in fire suppression and rescue.
- Respond to troubleshoot calls and conduct wildlife control.
- Maintain station facilities and perform preventative maintenance on all firefighting apparatus.
- Participate in firefighter training program in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Support the development and implementation of fire safety guidelines, evacuation plans and exercises for corporate owned buildings and structures.
- Support and promote fire prevention initiatives.
- Participate in ongoing Firefighter Emergency Response Service vehicle familiarization training.
- Participate in mutual-aid training initiatives.
- Perform fire and occupational safety and health (OSH) inspections of corporate owned buildings.
- Perform Reduced Visibility Operations (RVO) and Fuel Tank Inspections.
- Perform Airfield Compliance Plan (ACP) Level 1 Inspections (April 1 – October 31)
Administer the Airport Traffic Directives Program.
- Administer the hot work permit program.
- Participate in the Firefighter Physical Fitness Program.
- Provide feedback and follow Standard Operating Guidelines and Procedures.
- Participate in the testing and maintenance of fire suppression systems, alarms, records, and sprinkler tagout program.
- Participate in Quality Assurance Audits as assigned.
- Ensure safe storage of supplies respecting WHMIS and Federal Halocarbon Regulations.
- May be required to take on acting responsibilities of other positions within the department.
- Contribute to and support corporate events, initiatives, and internal committees.
- Participate in the annual corporate insurance review as it relates to the department’s activities.
- Participate in regulatory and corporate prescribed training and development activities.
- Understand and comply with all Corporate Policies and Procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current certification of the NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2.
- Current Medical First Responders I/AED SK certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years firefighting experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.

- Working knowledge of the Canadian Transport Emergency Centre (CANUTEC).
- Ability to operate emergency response vehicles and related equipment.
- Counselling skills in stressful and pressured situations.
- Knowledge in exercise design, process, development, and implementation.
- Knowledge of command-and-control techniques.
- Knowledge of emergency and firefighting techniques and methods.
- Ability to take full command of an emergency.
- Critical and logical thinking skills, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
- Computer literate with Microsoft based applications.
