Are you a dual ticketed Firefighter (NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2) and Primary Care Paramedic? Or a career oriented Primary Care Paramedic who wants to expand their skills and enter the field of Firefighting? Then keep reading, because we have the perfect job for you!
The Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Department is the only dual service department in the Province, providing both fire fighting and paramedic services to the community.
Why work for the District of Kitimat? We provide:
- A rental subsidy of up to $1,000 a month for 12 months.
- A relocation reimbursement of up to $10,000.

The recruitment weekend takes place over 4 consecutive days and includes:
- An interview, physical fitness tests, and aptitude tests in paramedicine and mechanical knowledge.
The District will cover the cost of accommodation and provide a $500 travel reimbursement for the recruitment weekend.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Firefighter/Paramedic, your primary functions are fire/rescue, pre-hospital emergency medical care, inspection/fire prevention and daily maintenance of the fire hall and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Preference will be given to those candidates with the following qualifications:
- NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II
- Primary Care Paramedic certification
- BC Class 3 & 4 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance and Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Work experience related to firefighting and/or pre-hospital care
- Post-secondary education
- IV endorsement
Candidates with their Primary Care Paramedic certification and the ability to obtain NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II are encouraged to apply.
Additional Information
Wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement and include wage parity to the City of Vancouver. NEW: The District of Kitimat will wage match career firefighters based on work experience to a maximum of 3 years.
