The City of New Westminster is seeking highly motivated and adaptable individuals to join New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services as Professional Firefighters. As one of the oldest fire departments in British Columbia, the department is known for its dedication to technology, innovation, and outstanding service to the community.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Fire Suppression: Respond to and extinguish fires to protect life and property.
- Medical Response: Provide emergency medical care at incidents as required, including first responder services.
- Rescue Operations: Participate in technical rescues, including hazardous materials response and dangerous goods incidents.
- Fire Prevention & Safety: Assist in fire prevention education and community outreach activities.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members and other emergency services to achieve departmental goals.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain firefighting equipment, apparatus, and station facilities to ensure operational readiness.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training, drills, and educational opportunities to maintain and enhance skills.
- Community Service: Engage in community involvement and volunteer activities, representing the department with professionalism and pride.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- High School Graduation or equivalent
- Completion of an approved Firefighter Training Program (NFPA 1001 Levels I and II or approved equivalent)
Licenses:
- Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (or equivalent, or scheduled testing date)
- Valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board License in one of the following: First Responder Level III with AED and Spinal Endorsements, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Advance Care Paramedic (ACP), or other recognized medical qualifications
Other Requirements:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Completion and submission of the Firefighter Recruitment Checklist
- Submission of cover letter, resume, and copies of all relevant certifications/educational credentials in one document
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and/or completion of Level 1 Trades Apprenticeship (military training and qualifications may be recognized as post-secondary credits)
- Additional Fire Service related courses
- Life-saving certificates
- Community involvement and volunteer experience (such as letters of reference)
