Description

The City of Moose Jaw is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Firefighter to help protect the lives and properties of Moose Jaw residents and surrounding areas. This role involves working as part of a team in emergency and hazardous situations, including firefighting, rescue operations, and hazardous materials response.

Firefighters are expected to operate fire apparatus, perform maintenance duties both on equipment and at the Fire Hall, and work various shifts including weekends and public holidays. The role demands excellent physical condition, strong teamwork, and effective communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate fire apparatus and equipment during emergency situations.
  • Perform firefighting and rescue duties under hazardous conditions.
  • Respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on fire equipment and at the Fire Hall.
  • Work shift schedules, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Maintain effective communication and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent physical condition.
  • Successfully completed Grade 12 or G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Graduate of an institution accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.
  • National Fire Protection Association 1001 Firefighter Level I and II certification.
  • Registered at minimum as an EMR in Saskatchewan with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (SCoP).
  • Possess or be able to acquire a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A driver’s license and provide a current driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination.
  • No criminal record (criminal record check required).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related training and experience in firefighting or emergency services.

Additional Information

  • Applicants must be prepared to travel to Moose Jaw for pre-employment testing. More than one trip may be required.
  • An eligibility list will be established for future hires, but placement on the list does not guarantee employment.
  • The process is competitive. Only those meeting minimum qualifications will be considered.
  • Testing may include written and physical fitness assessments.
  • As a condition of employment, registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (SCoP) at minimum as an EMR is required.
  • Only qualified applicants will be interviewed.
