The City of St. Albert is seeking dedicated individuals to join their Emergency Services department as Firefighter / Medics. As part of a committed team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the community through emergency response and medical care.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies as part of a team, protecting life and mitigating property loss.
- Fire Suppression & Rescue: Perform fire suppression and rescue activities in a wide range of potentially dangerous situations.
- Medical Care: Provide medical care to individuals in need within St. Albert and surrounding communities.
- Readiness & Professionalism: Maintain professionalism and a state of constant readiness at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic.
- Successful completion of the University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Test (tests completed between May 1, 2025 and November 1, 2025 will be accepted; results must be forwarded to the City of St. Albert).
- Advanced Care Paramedics who have not passed the University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Test by November 1, 2025 may still be eligible for an offer of employment.
- A valid Class 4 driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an NFPA 1001 Level 1 and Level 2 course.
- Previous experience working for a Fire Services department.
- Previous experience working for an Emergency Medical Services employer.
- Registration as an Advanced Care Paramedic or Primary Care Paramedic in another province.
Additional Information
Compensation: Starting at $81,195.39 per year ($37.18 per hour), including a comprehensive benefits package and Pension Plan.
Hours of Work: Two 10-hour Day shifts and two 14-hour Night shifts followed by 4 days of rest.

Conditions of Employment:
- Proof of educational and professional credentials.
- Satisfactory Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Satisfactory pre-employment medical, similar to NFPA Standard 1582.
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake (Q) endorsement must be obtained prior to completion of probation.
- This position is represented by IAFF Local 2130; terms and conditions are governed in part by the collective agreement.
