Working in an Incident Command System, the Firefighter’s role is to protect life and property through firefighting, emergency medical and other types of emergency incidents, often performed under conditions requiring strenuous physical and mental exertion. Firefighters are also expected to provide excellent customer service as well as being leaders in public fire safety education. Firefighters are active participants in ongoing training in all phases of emergency response, including suppression, inspection, emergency operations, rescue, and providing medical assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Respond to fires, rescue, and medical emergencies in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform firefighting, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue operations.
- Collaborate effectively with your crew and other first responder agencies while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
- Complete reports, record keeping and administrative duties.
- Participate and support fire prevention and public education activities.
- Participate and complete all training as assigned.
- Clean, inspect and maintain equipment and apparatus conducting full maintenance and safety checks.
- Ensure facilities, equipment, and grounds are clean and orderly.
- Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Grade 12 level education or equivalent (e.g. General Education Diploma).
- NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and II certified from an accredited program from a recognized institution, accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board.
- Possess valid Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) Candidate Testing Service Stages 2, 3 (FPAT only) and swim test certificates.
- Valid Ontario driver's license with a good driving record (no more than six (6) demerits).
- Valid Class “D” license with a “Z” air brake endorsement by hire date.
- Valid Red Cross Professional Responder certification.
- Medical clearance by a physician.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Security Check

Additional Information

Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan and an annual salary, based on a 42-hour work week. Additionally, this position will hold membership with the East Gwillimbury Professional Firefighters Association Local 4985, International Association of Fire Fighters.
