Description

The City of Abbotsford is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Career Firefighters within the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service. This position offers a stimulating and rewarding environment for those who want to serve a diverse and thriving community.

Firefighters at Abbotsford are highly trained professionals responsible for a wide range of emergency and rescue operations. The role provides opportunities to develop expertise in specialty areas and be part of a dynamic and engaged team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response: Respond to fires, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies.
  • Rescue Operations: Participate in specialized rescue operations including swift water rescue, vehicle rescue, and high-angle rescue.
  • Hazardous Materials: Handle hazardous materials incidents as trained and assigned.
  • Skill Development: Continuously develop and maintain skills in firefighting, rescue, and emergency response.
  • Community Engagement: Demonstrate commitment to volunteerism, community involvement, and public safety outreach.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively within the fire service team and support a positive, team-oriented environment.
  • Public Relations: Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills with the public and colleagues.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required by the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • NFPA 1001 Level 2 with Hazmat Operations
  • Current First Responder Level 3 license or greater, inclusive of Spinal Endorsement and AED (EMR or PCP Licensing)

Licensing:

  • Valid Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence with Airbrake endorsement

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent public relations, team building, and organizational skills

Additional Information

Salary: $37.54 per hour

Benefits: Competitive salary and benefits package offered by the City of Abbotsford.

Work Hours & Location: Full-time position based at 32315 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford BC, V2T 1W7. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.

  8. Fire Chief Interview (February 5-6, 2026)
