As part of our 2024/2025 Career Firefighter recruitment, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service is seeking to fill numerous full-time firefighter vacancies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Firefighters are highly trained professionals, skilled in firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous material training, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and other specialized services. Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service firefighters have the opportunity to develop their skills in specialty areas including:

  • Swift water rescue
  • Vehicle rescue
  • High-angle rescue
  • Hazardous materials response

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, you must possess:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • NFPA 1001 Level 2 with Hazmat Operations
  • Current First Responder Level 3 license or greater inclusive of Spinal Endorsement and AED. (EMR or PCP Licensing)
  • Valid Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence with Airbrake endorsement.
  • A commitment to volunteerism, community involvement, personal and professional development.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent public relations, team building and organization skills.

Additional Information

The hourly rate of pay is from $37.54 per hour.

AFRS Career Firefighter Hiring Process (2024-2025) 

The recruitment process for the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service has been broken down into eight (8) different stages.

  • Stage 1 - Application Accepted- (Oct. 1 to Oct. 25, 2024)
  • Stage 2 - Written Exam (Nov. 16, 2024)
  • Stage 3 - Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) (Nov. 30, 2024)
  • Stage 4 – Occupational Skills Assessment Day 1 (Dec. 1, 2024)
  • Stage 5 - Occupational Skills Assessment Day 2 (Dec.14 & 15, 2024)
  • Stage 6 - Reference Checks, Police Information Checks & Vulnerable Sector Search (Dec. 16, 2024 - Jan. 6, 2025)
  • Stage 7 - Pre-Employment Medicals (Jan. 6 - 17, 2025) 
  • Stage 8 - Fire Chief Interview (Jan. 29 & 30, 2025)

All dates are tentative and may be slightly adjusted throughout the process.

Estimated Start Date is Spring 2025.
