The City of Burlington is seeking highly motivated individuals to join its Fire Department as Probationary Firefighters. This full-time, regular position offers an opportunity to serve the Burlington community as part of a team of dedicated professionals committed to public safety and emergency response. Burlington Firefighters play a vital role in protecting residents, visitors, and property through emergency services and public education.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Emergency Response: Respond to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical incidents, and specialized technical rescues (hazardous materials, rope, surface water, and ice water rescue).
- Public Education & Fire Prevention: Participate in public education initiatives and fire prevention activities to increase community safety awareness.
- Training: Engage in ongoing training programs to maintain and advance firefighting skills and knowledge.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance of fire stations, apparatus, and firefighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively as part of a team of highly trained professionals dedicated to serving the community.
Minimum Qualifications
- Legal Eligibility: Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Education: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent education.
- Criminal Background Check: Ability to provide a clear criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector search, indicating no convictions for which a pardon has not been granted (proof required upon conditional offer).
- Driver’s License: Valid Class DZ driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three driving-related convictions or three demerit points in the previous three years).
- First Aid/CPR: Current First Aid and CPR certificates (minimum level C).
- NFPA 1001: Successful completion of NFPA 1001 Level I and II.
- Firefighter Services of Ontario Testing: Successful completion of ALL SEVEN COMPONENTS of the Firefighter Services of Ontario Screening Test (Clinical Evaluation, CPS Aptitude Examination, CPAT, Tread Water Test, Medical Assessment (Hearing & Vision), Acrophobia Test, and Emotional Stability & Resiliency Assessment).
- Documentation: Ability to provide resume, proof of education, First Aid/CPR certificates, proof of Class 'D' Ontario driver’s license with ‘Z’ endorsement, and proof of NFPA 1001 Level I & II completion as part of the application process.

Salary Range: $65,701.00 - $130,207.00 (Effective January 2026: $66,850)
