Description

The City of Brampton is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Firefighter - Probationary. This role offers an opportunity to serve the community by providing essential emergency services, including fire suppression, rescue operations, and public safety education. Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to all emergencies when called upon
  • Combat fires and perform rescue operations
  • Provide medical assistance in emergency situations
  • Conduct routine maintenance of firefighting equipment and department property
  • Engage in public fire safety education and inspect properties for fire hazards
  • Utilize state-of-the-art apparatus and modern equipment
  • Participate in charity and community events as an ambassador
  • Engage in continuous learning to advance knowledge and skills
  • Perform other similar and related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or academic equivalent
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations certifications
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification
  • Valid and unrestricted Ontario Class “D” driver’s license with a “Z” endorsement
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Completion of the Ontario Fire Administration Candidate Testing Program Stage 2 or York University Firefighter Fitness Testing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work rotating 24-hour shifts
  • Demonstrated ability to swim proficiently
  • Must meet vision requirements established by NFPA 1582
  • Ability to perform intense physical activities associated with firefighting
  • Ability to attain certifications within 18 months from the date of a conditional offer of employment

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College diploma or university degree from a recognized institution
  • Commitment to volunteerism or community service
  • Previous experience in customer service or public service
  • Trade apprenticeship or experience in a skilled trade recognized in Ontario
  • Experience as a volunteer, part-time, or full-time firefighter
  • Experience in an emergency services environment
  • Experience operating large or heavy vehicles
  • National Lifeguard Certification
  • Emergency Medical Responder certification
  • Experience in hazardous materials removal or environmental remediation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities
  • Multilingual skills

  • Starting Salary: $74,096 per annum (Annual incremental increases over a four-year classification process)
