Description
The Town of Gander is currently accepting applications for a Permanent Full Time Fire Fighter position within the Fire and Public Safety Department. The Town provides fire rescue services to the community and motor vehicle rescue to the surrounding areas. The department's mandate is to ensure fire protection through fire prevention awareness and modern firefighting techniques, acting as a point of contact for the public in emergencies and initiating necessary responses.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Monitors, receives, dispatches, and responds to fire and emergency calls;
- Provides mutual aid to Gander International Airport, 9 Wing Gander, other fire departments, and essential services;
- Responsible for after-hour Town-related calls;
- Drives, operates, and maintains firefighting apparatus and equipment safely;
- Enters hazardous environments for firefighting or rescue;
- Performs routine inspections of fire department vehicles and equipment;
- Conducts fire safety and prevention programs, including fire station tours;
- Receives non-emergency requests and forwards them to appropriate personnel;
- Maintains records and logs of equipment testing and inventory;
- Updates and maintains pre-incident plans for local businesses and high-density structures;
- Performs minor maintenance on emergency apparatus and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent;
- Firefighter Level I certification and eligibility for Level II within a year of hire;
- Advanced First Aid for Firefighters with CPR, AED, and Oxygen Certification;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365;
- Valid Class 3 Newfoundland and Labrador driver’s license with air brakes and a 5-year driver’s abstract;
- Clear certificates of conduct including an RCMP Criminal Record Check and a Provincial Court Check;
- A medical clearance certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of fire prevention techniques sufficient to advise the public;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Working knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.

- Salary: $64,515.36–$75,195.12 per year;
