Description

The City of Welland is seeking a motivated and technically skilled student for the role of Fire Co-op Student within the Fire Department. This co-op opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in an office environment, focusing on building capabilities in information management and administration.

As a Fire Co-op Student, you will work closely with the department team, utilizing your technical skills in data entry and Microsoft 365 applications. The placement, available for 4 or 8 months, is designed to provide real-world exposure while helping develop a strong foundation for a future career.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Efficiently perform data entry tasks to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of databases using power platforms such as Microsoft PowerApps and department-specific records applications.
  • Provide administrative support to various department divisions including organizing documents, conducting record inventories, and updating process guides and workflow diagrams.
  • Utilize office software (e.g., M365, Adobe) to create reports, presentations, and spreadsheets.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to streamline administrative processes and improve efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current enrollment or recent completion of a University Degree or College Diploma in Business Administration, Business Analyst, Information Technology, Records and Information Management, or a similar program.
  • Proficiency in data entry with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to summarize complex data for reporting and knowledge transfer.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with power platforms such as Microsoft PowerApps is highly desirable.

Salary: $21.48/hour plus OMERS pension is available
