Description
Under the direction of the Fire Captain, the Senior Firefighter is responsible for assistance in the development and mentoring of the Fire Department personnel, while performing all duties of a firefighter and, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient firefighting and rescue techniques and procedures are followed leading to a safe conclusion.
Duties and Responsibilities
- All duties and responsibilities of a Firefighter.
- Driver/Operator of all Fire Department vehicles & fire apparatus.
- Mentoring and instruction of fire department personnel.
- Participate as a member of an Ad-hoc Committee or a Standing Committee as required.
- Provide direction to Firefighters regarding effective training and emergency operations
- Promote fire prevention throughout the region through inspections, public appearances, and public education programs
- Assist in the carrying out of training personnel in the various methods of firefighting and rescue techniques and the use of equipment for emergency response
- Perform other related duties as required or as responsibilities necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 High School Diploma
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in the Fire Service
- Working Knowledge of:
- Town and MD Fire Services and Emergency Management Bylaws
- The Alberta Fire Code
- The Alberta Building Code
- The Alberta Safety Codes Act, and
- The Alberta Emergency Management Act
- The Alberta Emergency Management Regulations
- Municipal Government Act
- Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service Standard Operating Guidelines and Polices
- NFPA 1001 Level II or equivalent
- NFPA 472 Operations Level or equivalent
- Basic Emergency Preparedness
- Good written/verbal communications and public relations skills
- Possess a valid Class 3, 4 Driver’s License with “Q” endorsement or actively working towards
- ICS 200 is an asset
- Blue Card Command certification is an asset
