Description
Kelowna International Airport is seeking two full-time Airport Operations Specialist Firefighters to join our Airport Operations Management team. This position is integral to maintaining the safety and security of airport operations, with a focus on both emergency response and daily operational maintenance. The role combines specialized firefighting duties with airside and groundside maintenance responsibilities, providing a dynamic and challenging environment for qualified professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Firefighting & Emergency Response:
- Operate specialized aircraft rescue firefighting apparatus to respond to aircraft, medical, and other emergencies under the supervision of the Crew Captain.
- Provide first medical response services.
- Complete documentation on emergency calls, including relevant details such as weather and ground conditions.
Operations Monitoring & Communications:
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and phone communications within the Operations Room.
- Dispatch and/or take action on operational requests and concerns.
Site Maintenance & Inspections:
- Maintain a regular schedule of maintenance and site/equipment inspections. Complete accurate documentation of all inspections and conditions.
- Report current airfield conditions.
Equipment Operation & Airport Safety:
- Operate a variety of light to heavy and specialized equipment to maintain safe runways, aprons, taxiways, and other airside and groundside locations, including snow removal and the application of ice control chemicals.
Other Operational Tasks:
- Perform landscape maintenance, wildlife control, litter pick-up, general clean-up, and other manual work functions as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Certifications:
- High School graduation or equivalent
- Current ARFF Certification as per CARs 323
- Maintenance Driver Operator Certification (MDO)
- Aeronautical Restricted Radio Operators License
- Forklift Certification
- WHMIS
- First Medical Responder 3 with AED & Spinal
- Possession and Acquisition License (Firearms)
- Pesticide Applicator’s License
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
Licences:
- Ability to obtain Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP)
- RAIC or ability to obtain Transport Canada Security Clearance
- BC Driver's License – Class 3 with Air Ticket
Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel to the United States
- Physical ability to perform all duties
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in airport operations or emergency service environments
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability
Additional Information
Salary: 5 step progression; starting at $39.47 per hour.
Work Schedule: Shift rotation 4 on 4 off; 12-hour shifts (06:00-18:00, 18:00-06:00).
