Description

The Government of Yukon is looking for Airport Firefighters to join the Department of Highways and Public Works. This position is crucial for ensuring fire rescue operations, fire suppression, and prevention at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport. Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct airport fire rescue operations.
  • Implement fire suppression and prevention strategies.
  • Support fire, health, safety, and security programs.
  • Operate rescue firefighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
  • Follow incident command and communication procedures.
  • Work in a team environment to ensure safety and preparedness.
  • Complete an Annual Fitness Appraisal.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience operating rescue firefighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
  • Completion of Level 1 Structural Firefighter Certification (NFPA 1001 or equivalent).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certificate with Basic Life Support (BLS) and O2 Airway management.
  • Experience in structural firefighting.
  • Experience in aircraft firefighting is considered an asset.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in emergency situations.
  • Exercise professionalism and maturity.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Strong proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
  • Knowledge of structural firefighting and emergency medical practices.

Additional Information

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $33.91 - $39.26 per hour.
  • Work Type: Auxiliary On-Call, with shift work including weekends and stat holidays.
  • Travel may be required (10%).
  • Conditions of Employment include a class 3 driver’s licence, transportation security clearance, airport firefighter fitness appraisal, and more.
