This position is responsible for undertaking aircraft fire rescue operations and ensuring the safe evacuation of passengers and crew, initiating fire suppression activities, carrying out fire prevention activities, performing routine maintenance of firefighting equipment, and carrying out other duties related to fire, health and safety, and security programs at the Erik Nielson Whitehorse International Airport (ENWIA). Minimum Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note, selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Completion of Level 1 Structural Firefighter Certification (NFPA1001 or equivalent) (Have a look at our learning center for training in your area.)
- Experience in structural firefighting and operating rescue firefighting vehicles
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and Oxygen Therapy (Have a look at our learning center for training in your area.)
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license
- Incident Command System level I-100
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their
- Knowledge of structural firefighting and emergency medical practices
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations
- Availibility to work assigned shifts
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to act responsibly and apply professional judgment
- Ability to work well in a dynamic team environment
Additional Information
Conditions of Employment:
Valid Yukon Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement, Transport Canada Transportation Security Clearance (within 3 months); Restricted Radio Operator’s License and Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (within 1 month); Pass and maintain an Occupational Fitness Standard; complete the Airport Firefighter Certification program. Maintain a valid Passport. Pass and maintain firefighter medical clearance.
