Description

Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services, is offering a unique Work Experience Program (WEP) to graduates from an accredited Post Secondary College Pre-Service Firefighter Program. WEP is a one year, 24/7 commitment by successful WEP Members to join the Township of Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services Department, to gain on the job training and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates will benefit from working side by side with experienced Firefighters. A 12 month commitment to the work experience program is required, with the exception of those hired to a career fire department during their program. Daily duties of the WEP firefighter include training, emergency response including but not limited to; fire suppression, medical response, motor vehicle collisions, alarm calls, in addition they will participate in fire prevention, public education, preplanning, maintenance duties of equipment and fire station, as well as community events.

WEP Members must be mentally and physically prepared to respond to any and all incidents that may occur anytime, day or night, throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

WEP applicants must be a successful graduate of a Post Secondary College Pre-Service Firefighter Program; hold NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications; hold and maintain Standard First Aid Training, CPR "HCP", Dfib; possess a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check along with a valid “G” driver’s license (DZ preferred) and provide a three (3) year clean driver’s abstract; have a Certificate of Fitness (OFAI, CPAT or York) within the last 6 months (preferred) or older (accepted);
Have passed a Medical Examination Form completed by a Medical Practitioner and must be able to live at the designated Station.

Additional Information

Compensation for the WEP Members will be consistent with the FES Volunteer Firefighter rate. Compensation for attendance at training, emergency responses, standby and duty roster will be provided, plus a monthly educational allowance to assist with living expenses.

Each WEP Member will be provided with full protective clothing and a pager for emergency response. Uniforms and Department clothing will be provided. For WEP Members’ living accommodations, they will be supplied with a bed, storage space, all kitchen amenities and some entertainment and physical fitness equipment in the lounge areas, within the living space provided at the designated Station.

Upon successfully completing the required 12 month commitment to FES, WEP Members will receive a Letter of Reference by the Fire Chief for use when applying to any Full Time, Composite or Volunteer Fire Department of the WEP Member’s choosing.
