The Town of La Ronge is a scenic lake side community offering a full range of services and amenities located in the heart of Northern Saskatchewan with a population of approximately 3,000. This community offers progressive growth amidst the natural beauty of the area’s surrounding Lac La Ronge Provincial Park and is an outdoor recreation paradise. Visitors travel from around the globe to experience the outdoor adventures that this region offers and La Ronge is the hub of that region. The fire department provides fire protection and emergency services to the Town of La Ronge, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the Village of Air Ronge. Our service coverage area also extends to the other surrounding communities that require our assistance.
Duties and Responsibilities
The La Ronge Regional Fire Department is looking for two motivated, conscientious and professional individuals to take part in our work experience program for 2025. As a first responder, they will respond to structural and wildland fires, motor vehicles accidents, water rescues and other calls in the Lac La Ronge Region. They will be trained on industry best practices and gain valuable experience in the field of firefighting. The work experience program firefighters will be responsible for daily maintenance at the fire hall, assisting the Chiefs in training and inspections and will conduct training daily. They will be responsible for responding to emergencies during working hours and may be on-call during off hours. This position is a 6-month placement, tentatively scheduled to commence April 7, 2025 and conclude September 26, 2025.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include: legally entitled to work in Canada, fluency in English (written and verbal), NFPA 1001 - Level 2, NFPA 1072 - Operations Level, and graduated from an accredited fire college program. Previous firefighting, military, EMS, First Responder or Search and Rescue experience would be considered an asset. As a condition of employment, the individual must be: willing to live within 10km of the Town’s Fire Hall or be willing to relocate within the defined proximity; be at least 18 years of age; be medically suitable for the position of firefighter as per NFPA 1582 standards; and possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 3 drivers license with Air Brake Endorsement; as well as maintain a valid First Aid/CPR (any level) certification.
