2026 APPLICATIONS EXTENDED

Being part of a Work Experience Program provides knowledge and experience that career fire departments are looking for in new recruits. This challenging and rewarding opportunity offers you the ability to maintain and enhance your previous acquired skills while responding to emergencies and performing required station duties. A 12 month commitment to the work experience program is required. Daily Duties of the WEP Firefighter is balanced between, but not limited to; Fire Suppression, technical rescue, medical response, fire prevention, public education, maintenance duties of equipment & fire stations, as well as community events. WEP Firefighters will have regular scheduled shifts on the floor with after hours response coverage with other Paid on Call firefighters after hours. Ample training time during shifts and weekly scheduled training is available.

Duties and Responsibilities

Throughout the scheduled shifts, WEP Firefighters will provide daily cleaning, preventative maintenance and checks of the Creston Valley Fire Service's four fire stations, apparatus, and equipment. Emergency response while on shift to all calls and regular, weekly and special training as required. Ample time during off shift is available for self study and resume building as well as leisure time to explore all that the Creston Valley has to offer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant
  • Commitment to the 12 month Work Experience Program
  • Criminal record check
  • Doctors medical clearance or Certificate of Fitness.  Fit Tech, CPAT or York
  • Driver's license with Air Brake endorsement, favourable driver's abstract
  • High School Graduate or Equicalent
  • In-depth personal record check
  • NFPA 1001 Level II

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced level of First Aid Training
  • Post Secondary academic diploma
  • Previous firefighting or other related work
  • Technical Trades or Equivalent level
