For years, Sun Peaks’ Work Experience Program has helped aspiring firefighters reach their goals. The training and on-the-job experience that our members receive provide them with an edge in a very competitive job market. This opportunity gives applicants a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills in a program that has generated results – year after year.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Response to fire, rescue and medical emergencies
- Apparatus and equipment checks
- Fire Hall maintenance
- Public education
- Commercial fire inspections
- On-call duty shifts
- Potential deployment for BC Wildfire Service
- Other duties in keeping with the responsibilities of a firefighter in a career hall as directed by the Officer in Command
Minimum Qualifications
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2 plus HAZMAT Ops with IFSAC or PROBOARD accreditation
- Valid First Responder III Certificate, Emergency Medical Responder Certificate or BCEMA First Responder or higher License
- Valid BC class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with air brake endorsement
- Sun Peaks Fire Rescue Firefighter Medical Examination
- Recent Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 19 Years of age or older
- Canadian Citizen or permanent resident
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid EMR or PCP license category
- Technical, Trades, or Post Secondary education
- Previous Fire Fighting, Rescue, or Emergency Medical Responder experience
- Volunteer experience with a non-fire / non-medical organization
