Description

Kingston Fire and Rescue is currently recruiting Volunteer Firefighters for various volunteer-based stations. If you are interested and reside within the immediate area of any of the specific fire stations listed, please consider applying. This role offers exciting and rewarding opportunities, allowing you to become an integral part of a team dedicated to protecting lives and property through emergency response and public education.

Duties and Responsibilities

Category: Emergency Response

  • Respond to emergencies in your assigned area, including firefighting, rescue work, medical assistance, hazardous materials, and activated alarms.

Category: Station Maintenance

  • Maintain the fire station, apparatus, equipment, and communications.

Category: Fire Safety Promotion

  • Promote fire safety through programs and displays provided by the Fire Department.

Category: Training

  • Attend regular weekend, weekly, and mandatory training sessions.

Category: Additional Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or acceptable equivalent in education (verification required).
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record (0 demerit points); must maintain a DZ driver’s license obtained within 18 months of completing the recruit training program.
  • Experience/training in firefighting, emergency medical response, or a licensed trade is an asset.
  • Enjoy working with the public and be willing to dedicate time to complete the recruit training program, approximately 24 weeks of training.
  • Must meet prescribed hearing and vision requirements of NFPA 1582.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to communicate clearly under high-pressure situations.
  • Available on short notice and able to work flexible hours.
  • Physically fit to fulfill the role.
  • Provide satisfactory medical assessments and obtain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check).
  • Maintain a satisfactory attendance rate of 35% for training and emergency calls annually after training completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background/knowledge of technical trades and safety practices.
  • Experience coaching, counseling, or educating the public.
