Description
The City of Markham, recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers, is seeking a Summer Student for its Fire & Emergency Services Department. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting fire services operations and community events.
As a Summer Student, you will work with the Fire Logistics Division and assist in various administrative and event support tasks throughout the summer. This is an in-office position aimed at students returning to full-time studies in the fall.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Fire Logistics Division: Create reports for internal and external clients.
- Design Support: Design digital signages and publications.
- Event Assistance: Provide support for summer events such as Emergency Preparedness Day, Firefighter Summer Camp, and Fire Station Open Houses.
- Administrative Support: Provide general support to various Divisions in their administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment: Currently enrolled at a recognized post-secondary educational institute and returning to full-time studies in the fall.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Teamwork: Ability to work in a busy team environment and deliver on schedule.
- Technical Skills: Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
- Design Software: Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer Programming: Skills in SQL, VBA.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $18.13 per hour
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 - 4:00 (35 hours/week)
Location: 8100 Warden Ave, Markham, ON (in-office)
