The North Bay Fire & Emergency Services is hiring full-time Probationary Firefighters. The role involves public education, safety inspections, emergency responses, and equipment maintenance. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and teamwork. Physical and mental fitness are essential for this demanding position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct public education programs and safety inspections.
- Respond to emergencies, including fires, medical incidents, and hazardous situations.
- Operate and maintain firefighting equipment and vehicles.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure safety and effective response.
- Participate in training and professional development activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree, community college diploma, or trade certification recognized by the Ontario College of Trades.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and II certification from an accredited program recognized by IFSAC or Pro Board.
- Successful completion of stages in the Ontario Fire Administration Inc. Candidate Testing Services program.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Valid Class "D" Ontario Driver’s License with "Z" endorsement.
- Availability to work 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, averaging 42 hours per week.
- Proximity to the fire station within 30 minutes when off duty.
- Willingness to work in hazardous conditions and under stress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Character reference letters (up to two) are optional but considered an asset.
- A-EMCA Designation.
- Advanced emergency medical training.
- Additional NFPA courses or certifications related to firefighting.
- Advanced hazardous materials training.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Previous experience in emergency services, construction, trades, mechanical, large vehicle operation, or military.
- Community service involvement.
- Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Coaching, teaching, counseling, or recreation leadership experience.
