Description

GPFD is currently in a recruitment process to develop an eligibility list with the intent to fill upcoming vacancies as Firefighters. The challenge is for career Firefighters to provide Fire Suppression, Medical Co-response and Specialized Rescue Services along with the delivery of Fire Prevention and Public Education Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will have exceptional customer service skills; good written and verbal communication skills; a proven ability to work effectively within a team environment; show good initiative and innovation; be a quick learner and have the ability to teach others. Alignment with the City of Grande Prairie's Guiding Beliefs is a critical element for success.

Minimum Qualifications

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 2 Certification; including NFPA 472 Awareness and Operations (From IFSAC or ProBoard Approved Institution)

One of the three following types of medical training: (NOTE: ACP registration is NOT required)

  • Approved Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Training Course or Proof of Provincial Equivalencies; or
  • Valid Advanced First Aid; or
  • NAIT MFR program certificate

Class 4 and 3 Alberta Driver's License with Air Brakes (Q) Endorsement or Equivalencies or Proof of Provincial Equivalencies.

Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalency.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have no criminal record and be legally entitled to work in Canada. Additional training, experience, or education will be considered an asset.
