Description

The City of Calgary is seeking candidates for the position of Probationary Firefighter. This role is crucial for public service, as firefighters respond to a variety of emergencies, including fires, rescues, and medical situations. The Calgary Fire Department values diversity and inclusion, aiming to build a team that reflects the community it serves. Candidates will undergo an extensive evaluation process to ensure they meet the high standards required for this vital position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fires, rescues, medical emergencies, motor vehicle collisions, and other emergencies.
  • Engage with the community through fire safety education and participation in community events.
  • Adhere to the Calgary Fire Department's policies and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Have a High School Diploma or equivalent (CAEC or GED), or a Journeyman's Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English under stressful conditions.
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver's license without GDL status and no more than six demerit points.
  • Must be at least three years clear from any criminal activity.
  • Meet the NFPA 1580 standard for medical conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced First Aid (AFA) certificate or higher.
  • CPR-HCP or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Alberta Class 3 driver's license with an air brake endorsement or provincial equivalent.
