Description

The City of Thompson’s Fire and Emergency Services Department is seeking motivated, community minded professionals to join our department as Primary Care Paramedics (PCP). Our department provides EMS and fire protection to Manitoba’s fourth largest City.

The successful candidates will provide emergency paramedical services, pre-hospital and community based medical care within scope of practice, patient transport in accordance with provincial legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Duties:

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls in a safe, professional, and timely manner.
  • Perform patient assessments, including history taking, vital signs, and physical examinations.
  • Provide emergency medical care within the Primary Care Paramedic scope of practice, including basic life support, medication administration, airway management, and patient stabilization.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, partner agencies, dispatch, hospitals, and receiving facilities.
  • Complete patient care reports, maintain patient confidentiality and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain ambulances, medical equipment, and supplies, ensuring readiness for response.
  • Participate in training, continuing education, and skills maintenance as required by licensing and medical oversight.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized Primary Care Paramedic program.
  • Current registration and licensure as a Primary Care Paramedic in the Province of MB or ability to transfer equivalent out- of- province license to MB, COPR.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current CPR – Healthcare Provider (HCP).
  • Valid Class 4 MB driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
  • Must provide valid Vulnerable Sector Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet and maintain physical and medical fitness requirements for paramedic duties.
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts.

 

Additional Information

The City of Thompson offers a competitive and transparent compensation package, including structured wage progression and northern incentives.

  • Hourly Rate of Pay: As outlined below (effective January 2026)
  • Annual Retention Allowance: $11,000
  • Bi-weekly Remoteness Allowance, paid every pay period
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision care and pension plan.
  • Overtime, benefits, shift premiums, and pension in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Salary: Primary Care Paramedic (PCP): $77,925.12 to $112 585.2.03 per year*

*PCPs are hired as Probationary employees and may progress to the First-Class PCP within twenty-four (24) months of service, subject to satisfactory performance and completion of required training.
