Description
The Part-Time Firefighter role involves fire suppression, rescue, and medical assist services. Responsibilities include maintaining firefighting equipment and facilities, participating in training, and ensuring readiness for emergency response.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergencies, including fires, rescues, and medical assists.
- Operate firefighting equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain physical fitness and readiness.
- Participate in training and development activities.
- Support the maintenance of firefighting equipment and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- NFPA 1001 Level 2 certification.
- Standard First Aid (HCP/CPR/AED).
- Alberta Driver’s License Class 3 with Airbrake Endorsement ("Q") or equivalent.
- Clean criminal record and minimal driving infractions.
- Satisfactory completion of medical evaluation.
- Physical agility and stamina for duties in adverse conditions.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and individuals in rescue situations.
- Adequate vision, hearing, mobility, and dexterity.
- Self-discipline and professionalism.
- Ability to react quickly and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to consistently work minimum hours as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (60 hours per month).
- Ability to respond to a minimum of 25% of emergency call-backs annually.
- Reside within a 60-minute drive of an RVC fire station.
- Experience with basic computer functions and possess basic keyboarding skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous firefighting experience is considered an asset.
