Description

The City of Lethbridge is seeking up to six Advanced Care Paramedics (ACP) and Primary Care Paramedics (PCP) to join the Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) team. In this permanent, full-time role, successful candidates will provide high-quality pre-hospital care and play a key part in protecting and serving the citizens of Lethbridge.

LFES offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities to focus exclusively on EMS or to progress into integrated Fire-EMS roles. Candidates will be joining a professional and committed team dedicated to exemplary public service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Provide high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care as a Paramedic (ACP/PCP).
  • Focus on patient care, clinical excellence, and skill advancement within the EMS division.

Career Streams:

  • Dedicated EMS Division: Work exclusively in emergency medical services at your designation, with the option to remain in this division for your entire career without fire suppression responsibilities.
  • Integrated Fire-EMS Division: Opportunity to transition to fire training, qualifying for the role of Paramedic Firefighter, including fire suppression, rescue, and integrated emergency response (subject to successful completion of LFES Fire Academy and available vacancies).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Maintain professionalism and a commitment to exemplary public service.
  • Successfully complete recruitment evaluations and assessments as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Certification & Registration:

  • Registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP). Applications without this registration will not be accepted.

Driver’s License:

  • Minimum Class 4 Driver's License in the province of Alberta.

Physical Requirements:

  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E) prior to being offered a position.

  • Driver’s abstract (dated within 3 months of posting close)
  • Police Information Check with vulnerable sector search (dated within 3 months of posting close)
  • F.A.R.E. test results (proof of successful completion within 6 months of posting close)

Recruitment Process:

  1. Behavioural descriptive job interview
  2. Medical written exam and scenario testing
  3. Written psychological evaluation exams
  4. Written Firefighter Aptitude exam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates registered as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) are given preference.
