The Town of La Ronge is a scenic lake side community offering a full range of services and amenities located in the heart of Northern Saskatchewan with a population of approximately 3,000. This community offers progressive growth amidst the natural beauty of the area’s surrounding Lac La Ronge Provincial Park. The fire department is unique in that it provides fire protection and emergency services to the Town of La Ronge, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the village of Air Ronge. Our service coverage area also extends to the other surroundings communities that require our assistance.
The La Ronge Regional Fire Department is seeking a qualified individual who will assume the duties as the on-scene Safety Officer for the Department, as well as act as the Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) Coordinator for the Tri-Community area. Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, the successful candidate will assist with training, recruitment and public education for the Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Incident Safety Officer shall respond to all major emergency incidents, for the purposes of providing on-scene assistance to the IC including maintaining firefighter accountability and monitoring for developing hazardous situations at a working scene. The successful candidate will also represent the fire department on the OH&S Committee, documenting and reporting work place safety concerns, near misses and injuries to appropriate agencies and committees. As EMO Coordinator, the individual is responsible for ensuring the Tri-Community emergency plan is kept current and in the event that a Local State of Emergency is declared, assume the role of EMO Coordinator for the Emergency Operations Centre.
Some qualifications for the role include completion of the NFPA 472 HazMat Awareness and Operations Level IFSAC, NFPA 1001 Level II IFSAC Firefighter with a minimum of five (5) years of fire fighting experience, NFPA 1041 Level I IFSAC Fire Service Instructor, ICS 100,200, and hold a certificate in WHMIS/GHS. Minimum Qualifications
As a condition of ongoing employment, the individual must: living within 10km of the Town’s Fire Hall or be willing to move within the defined proximity upon hiring; be required to assume the role of a duty officer for weekend or holiday coverage; have familiarity with OH&S regulations; and possess and maintain a valid Class 3-A Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Please note that the Town of La Ronge practices global reference checks, and the successful candidate will be required to submit to a criminal record check including vulnerable sector check. The Town of La Ronge offers a comprehensive benefit package. The annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $66,000 and is dependent upon experience.
