The Journeypersons Firefighter position is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the Fire Chief. Their primary focus is responsible for carrying out fire fighter duties in accordance with the CFFM’s ITM requirements and emergency operations in accordance with the NFPA standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform Wildland firefighting operations and maintain a physical fitness level to accomplish associated tasks.

• Help manage and coordinate firefighting apprentices’ daily activities.

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and tasks as required by the CFFM and dictated by regulatory standards.

• Perform daily vehicle and equipment checks and verify personal protective equipment.

• Inspect and coordinate the maintenance for handheld fire extinguishers of all classes.

• Assist and maintain training and incident logs

• Work safely in accordance with departmental standard operating guidelines.

• Is responsible to maintain a high level of security while performing and executing their scope of work

• Supports and participates in Canadian Base Operators Safety Program, HSE and Environmental policies and procedures

• Ensure proper maintenance and repair of all tools and equipment

• Other firefighting duties as required within the capabilities of the individual

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent

• Knowledge of DND policies and procedures is an additional asset

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level 1 & 2

• NFPA SP100 Wildland

• NFPA 1002 Driver/Pump Operator

• NFPA 472 Hazmat (awareness level)

• Ontario D License with Z (air brake) endorsement

• Must possess a clear driver’s abstract; and must be able to obtain and maintain a military 404 Drivers Licence

• Standard First Aid & CPR/AED

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

• Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Teams

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and with minimal direction
