Description

Reporting to the Director, Airfield Services and supervised by the Fire Captain, the Firefighter is primarily responsible for the delivery of Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) operations, emergency first aid response, and other safety-related services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform as a member of a firefighting force by responding and performing as a driver/operator on firefighting vehicles at a crash, structural fire, fuel spill, bomb threat, hazardous material spills, environmental and other emergencies.
  • Ensure complete familiarity with response routes and vehicle positioning requirements.
  • Deliver airport safety related services, including but not limited to wildlife hazard management, safety hazard monitoring, reporting, investigation, and mitigation.
  • Support in the development and execution of Safety programs.
  • Maintenance ,including but not limited to fire hydrants, hydrant flow testing, fire extinguishers
  • Respond to off airport emergencies when directed by the Fire Captain or Duty Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post secondary education with minimum 3 years’ experience in fire service, emergency management or related field
  • Standard First Aid Level C with AED, or higher qualification
  • Valid firefighter certification, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 1 and 2
  • Volunteer Firefighter experience considered an asset
  • Incident Command System (ICS) - 100 Training
  • International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and/or Pro Board Accredited certification is considered an asset
  • Emergency Services Instructor Level 1, is considered an asset
  • Must provide a driver’s abstract and have a valid class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an Airport Vehicle Operator Permit “D” (AVOP) and restricted radio/telephone license (ROC-A)
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work shift work, which includes nights and weekends
  • Airport related experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to pass a written assessment and physical fitness test
