Description

Looking to start your firefighting career? This all-new position will not only give you the gainful employment you're after, but will also pay for your college education! Successful candidates will receive a plethora of certifications and experience, jumpstarting their firefighting career. This special posting does not require the applicant to have any previous firefighting experience or education.

As an employee of Unlimited Safety Services, you have the opportunity to work as an industrial and municipal firefighter. Full-time employees work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, providing emergency services to the community in-between industrial fire, medical, and rescue assignments. Pay:

A bi-weekly salary is provided to full-time employees. Day-rates are given on top of salary to employees working in the oil field. Successful candidates for this position will start at the Class 2 Firefighter payscale, and will begin work after January 1, 2024. The Class 2 Firefighter Payscale pays $1,000 per week, plus $140 per day bonus for industrial assignments. After 6 months at the class 2 pay scale, the individual will be promoted automatically to Class 1.

Training Provided:

Formal training via the Canadian Fire Rescue College will begin in July of 2023, and will end on January 1, 2024. Applicants must be willing to attend full-time schooling for this entire duration. The training provided will include the following free of charge in return for two years employment:

Standard First Aid and CPR
ICS 100 and 200
H2S Alive
NFPA 1051 Wildland Urban Interface Firefighter
NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1
NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 2
NFPA 1072 HAZMAT Awareness and Operations
NFPA 1002 Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator
Air Brakes (Q) endorsement
Class 3 Driver Training (10 hours)
EMR (Accredited program through ACP)
Candidates who do not complete two years of employment with USS will be required to repay training costs.

Candidates must complete a pre-employment screening.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide fire protection, firefighting and other emergency services
Preform required duties at the station and on-site as per SOP's
Operate company vehicles safely and conduct pre/post-trip inspections
Set up and maintain all equipment as per SOP's
Complete and submit daily paperwork
Participate in safety meetings and coordinate plans with on-site representatives
Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
Maintain required tickets and certifications
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
Clean criminal background history and vulnerable sector check
Clean driver abstract
High school diploma or GED
English 30-1 or 30-2 or equivalent
Math 10 Pure or 20-1 or equivalent or Math 20 Applied or 20-2 or equivalent
Biology 30 or equivalent

Recruitment Process:

Stage I: Pre-Screening - Candidate profiles are reviewed and accepted or declined based on minimum requirements for the position.

Stage II: Training Commitment - Candidates are required to review and agree to the following training commitment:

Roughly 3 months of training starting at the end of August 2023 and ending in Early December of 2023. Applicants are not compensated during this period of time, however do receive living accommodations during the training, and over $10,000 of formal fire, rescue, and emergency medical responder education.
Unlimited Safety Services requires that employees sign a training agreement, that requires the employee remain with the company for a minimum of 2 years, or re-pay the entirety (or a portion for a portion of contract served) of new employee training costs if they leave employment prior to their two year employment anniversary.
The pre-employment education is difficult, and competitive. individuals who are not able or willing to complete the training will be removed and their employment contract nulled. If an individual is removed from training prior to completion, they may receive the opportunity to pay to complete the remaining training rather than forfeit the qualifications earned.

NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II
NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
NFPA 1002 Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator
NFPA 1051 Wildland Urban Interface Firefighter
BCWFS S100 & 185 Type 3 BC Wildland Firefighter
Emergency Medical Responder
10 Hours of Class 3 Driver Training
Air Brakes Endorsement
ICS 200
Standard First Aid Level C
H2S Alive

Stage III: Physical and Cognitive Testing - Candidates attend a 1 day testing event that is designed to test their abilities.

This takes place on Wednesday July 19, 2023 at 09:00 hours at 4923 46A Avenue in Alberta Beach, Alberta.
Consists of a physical abilities test in the morning, and cognitive ability testing in the afternoon. Candidates will also be given the opportunity to ask questions, tour facilities, and meet management staff.The physical abilities test will consist of basic firefighter movements testing strength and endurance. This test is graded on a pass or fail.
The cognitive abilities test consists of two books: Book 1: Cognitive Abilities (mathematics, spatial awareness, problem solving, reading comprehension), and Book 2: Human Relations (ethics). You will be permitted 2.5 hours to complete these tests. Your test scores will be added to your overall recruit score, which takes into account previous experiences as outlined on your resume, indeed assessment scores, and the final interview.

You will need to bring:
-Running shoes

-Dress in activewear

-Full Water Bottle

-No. 2 Pencil

Stage IV: Interview - Candidates are interviewed for the position. This is typically done via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Candidates are asked real questions about their hystory, and hypothetical questions about their future career.

Stage V: Selection - Successful candidates are selected and receive job offers.
