Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as The Program Manager of the Firefighter training branch of the Canadian Fire Rescue College (CFRC). The CFRC Firefighter training branch is currently focused on delivering NFPA 1001 Firefighter Training Programs to firefighting students, but also provides other levels of training including NFPA 1140 Wildland Firefighter, NFPA 1002 Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator, NFPA 470 Hazmat Responder, NFPA 1041 Instructor, and NFPA 1021 Officer levels of training. As the Firefighter Training Program Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing many different levels of firefighter training to students at the Canadian Fire Rescue College, and will also be responsible for the overall administration and scheduling of fire training. This is a rewarding position suitable for certified Fire Service Instructors who are looking to further their career.

Salary and Benefits:

The Fire Program Manager will recieve a competitive salary, with guaranteed full-time hours. They will also receive insurance coverage that will cover various costs including dental and life insurance. Paid vacation time will be negotiated in the job-offer stage of the hiring process.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Firefighter Training Program Manager will spend approximately half of the calendar year teaching and supervising the delivery of firefighter training programs, and will spend the other half of the year conducting preparations, student admission, and administrative duties. Here is a sample of some of the responsibilities that will be carried by the program manager:

During Training Season (Spring/Summer/Fall):

  • Deliver various Firefighter training programs to students
  • Manage subordinate instructors
  • Escort and supervise students on emergency scenes
  • Follow all protocols and guidelines set forth by the Canadian Fire Rescue College

During Off Season (Winter):

  • Take care of ongoing regulatory reporting requirements for licensed colleges
  • Perform recruitment and hiring for new instructors as needed
  • Co-ordinate training with the College Director, Admissions Team, industry partners, and other Program Managers
  • Document and file training records
  • Design and acquire new training facilities as approved by the director
  • Setup and maintain classroom and practical training facilities.
  • Maintain and clean firefighting equipment and supplies
  • Manage Fire program budget and report on a regular basis to the director
  • Answer phone-calls, and provide assistance to prospective students
  • Take additional training and learning opportunities as required by the college
  • Attend career fairs, and association meetings as needed
  • Actively participate in curriculum development activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • NFPA 1041 Emergency Services Instructor Level II (IFSAC/Pro Board)
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II (IFSAC/Pro Board)
  • Physically fit and willing to performing active firefighting duties
  • Excellent instructional skills and background experience
  • Ability to overcome scheduling and training program delivery challenges with minimal or no assistance
  • Strong knowledge of emergency firefighting procedures and protocols
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Relatively advanced computer based abilities are required for this position
  • Management and supervision experience is required.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Marketing and financial skills are considered assets for this position.
  • NFPA 1140 Wildland Firefighter (IFSAC/Pro Board) is an asset
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II (IFSAC/Pro Board) is an asset
  • NFPA 1002 Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator (IFSAC/Pro Board) is an asset
  • NFPA 1006 Rescue Qualifications (IFSAC/Pro Board) are an asset
  • EMS Training and licensure is an asset
